Gerry Coogan songs
A new year has begun and it's time to get back to work. Here's a new song that received its world premier in the Cavern Club last October when we opened our RampBash (UK) set with a version of it. Lyrically, we want to address the issue of prejudice. Relationships between people of different religions, races, nationalities or any other categorisation have traditionally been subjected to stresses, opposition and hostility which really have no place in the twenty-first century. We happen to know many couples whose love has surmounted the obstacles placed in front of them by the small-minded. This song celebrates the triumph of a love which can extend its embrace beyond the limits of a redundant world view.
There are one or two creaky lines which still require fixing but for once we're just going to go with what we've got because we don't get as much time to work on recording these days as we used to! "It is what it is," says Alex Stangl, and who are we to argue?
Kyle on vocals, guitars, bass and drums; I'm on the keyboards, including the pseudo-trombone. I must remember to ask Billy Playle (Quados) what he uses to do his brass parts because they're always most convincing.
